The Processing Technology Track

This track will address important topics, trends and technologies across the chemical, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries, with a focus on the development, management, and improvement of industrial processing operations. Plus, an in-depth look at the instruments that measure the parameters of systems that control liquids and gases in industrial processes.

This track will be part of the larger hybrid event taking place live at the Huntington Convention Center in Cleveland, OH, November 9-11, 2021. A portion of the content will be available virtually December 7-8, 2021

Choosing the Right Seal Technology Makes All the Difference: 4 Case Studies

Selecting the ideal seal technology for specific applications provides vast improvements in reliability, housekeeping (product leakage onto the floor and other equipment), safety, product waste and asset uptime. In this session, the presenters will discuss four case studies that demonstrate how choosing the right seal reduces costs; increases mean time between failure (MTBF) and saves money due to minimized or eliminated product loss. The case examples that will be discussed are:
•             Air seal for a potato chip seasoning conveyor: Product loss was completely eliminated.
•             Mechanical seal system in an ethanol plant: Meantime between repair increased from one year to three years.
•             Bearing isolator in a paper plate manufacturer: Success with one gearbox eliminated lubricant leakage and downtime for bearing isolator and felt roll replacement.
•             Pump air seal system in paper mill: MTBF of a hydrapulper discharge pump increased from about two weeks to 18 months and counting.

Focus On New Technologies

A closer look at some of the newest processing technologies in the marketplace that are designed to increase efficiency, productivity, safety and, ultimately, the bottom line, across the process industries.

Process Control & AutomationA closer look at some of the newest process control and automation technologies, including examples of how these technologies have been integrated into process facilities.
Maintenance & SafetyBest practices and important considerations related to plant maintenance and product, process and personnel safety.
Seal Reliability Case StudiesSelecting the ideal seal technology for each application provided vast improvements in reliability, housekeeping (product leakage onto the floor and other equipment), safety, product waste, asset uptime. In each case study that will be discussed, costs were reduced; MTBF was increased, and money was saved because product loss was minimized or eliminated. The case examples that will be discussed are: • Air seal for a potato chip seasoning conveyor: Product loss was completely eliminated. • Mechanical seal system in ethanol plant: Meantime between repair increased from one year to three.
In-Plant Perspective

A case study or application story discussing how a processor achieved success and made significant gains by implementing a solution at its facility.

Material HandlingA closer look at emerging trends involving material handling in the food & beverage, chemical, pharmaceutial and oil & gas processing industries.
