Marcia Elaine Walker

Marcia Elaine Walker is a principal consultant at SAS, where she helps clients apply data management and analytics technologies to make better decisions faster. She works with a global team of quality and supply chain experts supporting implementations in both process and discrete manufacturing and she manages the global go-to-market activities for the SAS quality suite. Walker’s career has revolved around the industrial sector, including energy, manufacturing, and mining. Her experience includes working as a senior director at SAP; managing international engagements with the Deloitte Consulting manufacturing practice; service in the industry business of Schneider Electric; and a decade in roles of increasing responsibility at Rockwell Automation.

She holds five issued and multiple pending patents related to analytics in the industrial space. Marcia was recently named one of the most influential women in IoT by the IoT Institute and is under contract with Wiley Business Press for a forthcoming book about analytics. She was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Heidelberg and completed her post-graduate studies at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro. When she’s not helping clients solve business challenges, you may find her on a local stage, where she is an accomplished member of an improvisational theater company. She lives in Durham, North Carolina with her husband and their excessively furry orange cat.

Kenny Capps

Kenny Capps is Proto Labs’ plant manager at its 3D printing facility in North Carolina. Capps has more than 17 years of experience with nearly every major 3D printing technology and has managed various teams of additive manufacturing engineers over the past decade. Prior to 3D printing, he worked at Becton-Dickinson in its computer-aided engineering lab. Capps holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Business Management from North Carolina State University.

Annette Green

Annette Green leads the comprehensive business and strategic operations of the Commercial Business organization within the Americas sales division of SAS. As vice president, Green has profit and loss responsibility for a business unit covering the US midmarket, in addition to the hospitality, transportation, travel, and services verticals. Additionally, she directs the field sales organization in the aforementioned markets, as well as SAS’s US and Latin American Inside Sales organization.

Her primary responsibility is to serve as a focused executive, and provide strategic planning for both field in the industry verticals she oversees, as well as inside sales. She is also responsible for directing a staff comprised of over 200 sales professionals, sales-support personnel and industry domain principals across 16 regional offices, who work together to improve business returns for the customer, helping them transform how they do business thru the smart application of SAS’s expertise and business analytics.

Scott Daugherty

Scott Daugherty is Senior Vice President - Manufacturing, IT and Business Development for Cormetech Inc., the world’s leading producer of titania-based ceramic honeycomb catalyst used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to reduce air pollution during electric power generation, chemical and refinery processing and stationary & marine engine applications. He has over 30 years of experience across the environmental technologies, consumer products, medical & military electronics and telecommunications industries. He earned a MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, a BS in Computer Engineering from Clemson University and is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt.

Phil Mintz

Phil Mintz is the Director of the North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP) and the Executive Director of NC State Industry Expansion Solutions (IES). At NCMEP, Phil drives outreach to NC manufacturers, builds relationships with federal and state leaders and coordinates efforts to drive profitable manufacturing growth in the state. He also leads the broader IES Extension Operations outreach unit of regional managers, technical specialists and business development leaders providing business engagement, assessment and improvement tools. This includes statewide peer networks, ISO 9000 quality management systems, Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing, environmental services, and health and safety solutions. The unit also serves the healthcare and government sectors, in addition to manufacturing. Phil has 25 years of manufacturing and engineering experience, including 10 years as an IES Regional Manager and specialist in quality management and Lean Six Sigma services. Before joining IES, he held posts as an industrial and systems engineer and engineering cost specialist for clients including the US Navy Procurement Office in Norfolk, VA; Lockheed-Martin Engineering and Sciences Company at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA; and Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s Electronic Systems Division in Baltimore, MD. He has developed plant layouts for cellular manufacturing applications, created and adjusted work standards for electronic manufacturing processes, and developed and evaluated product/process changes for improved production and maintenance support. Phil has a B.S. degree in engineering operations from North Carolina State University and an MS in industrial engineering from North Carolina A&T State University. Outside of his work, Phil enjoys watching and participating in sports, including golf and activities with his two sons. He is a youth basketball coach for the YMCA and supports various church and community activities.

Beth Gargan

Assistant Secretary, Communications, and External Affairs North Carolina Department of Commerce

Beth Gargan was appointed Assistant Secretary for Communications and External Affairs for the NC Department of Commerce on February I, 2017. In this role, Beth directs the external and internal communications for the state's largest economic development agency. She brings more than 30 years of diverse government and corporate communications and public relations experience to the department's communications team, where she previously served as Communications Director as well as Public Relations Director for the Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development.

Before returning to Commerce, Beth was Chief of Staff and Assistant to the Vice Provost for the Office of Outreach & Engagement/Executive Director of Industry Expansion Solutions (IES) at NC State University.ln her dual role, she was instrumental in strategic planning and establishing outreach & engagement partnerships across the state. For IES, Beth worked to promote the IES brand to various audiences and stakeholders, including the news media and potential customers, through public relations initiatives, social media, and other community engagement efforts. She also managed the North Carolina Awards for Excellence (NCAfE) program.

Beth has an undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism/English from the University of Southern California and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
