Giant Leaps: Leading in a Time of Transformation

Automated vehicles, mobility-as-a service and electrification are all disrupting the auto industry and its suppliers. To lead innovation, manufacturers must compete in a race for talent with tech companies who lure the best and brightest. Liebert, who has deep roots in manufacturing and her own story of personal transformation from farm to school to industry, will share how leadership must transform for manufacturers to remain competitive. She’ll address how partnerships/relationships, speed, services/solutions and investing in people are critical to success in global markets.

Lou Rassey
Chief Executive Officer
Fast Radius

Digital Lessons from North America's "Smartest" Factory

Lou Rassey began his manufacturing career sweeping up at his family’s Detroit machine shop. Today, he runs the industrial-scale additive factory Fast Radius, the premier nexus connecting physical and digital manufacturing, the old and the new. The World Economic Forum named the Chicago site as the best smart factory in North America, and Rassey believes even small job shops have the power to unlock the potential of 3D printing for virtual parts, fixtures or jigs, or optimal part design. It's not a turnkey solution, though, and Lou will discuss the best beginner practices and wisest scaleup strategies.

Lou helped set the strategy and 2015 launch of the Digital Design and Manufacturing Innovation Institute (DMDII) in Chicago, one of the new U.S. national laboratories focused on advancing Industry 4.0, and before that, spent 11 years guiding manufacturing executives in operational transformations as a partner at McKinsey. He spent the first chapter of his career as an engineer in the auto industry with Chrysler and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Notre Dame, a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Michigan – Dearborn, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and an MBA from MIT Sloan where he was a Leaders for Manufacturing Fellow.

Keys to the Training Transformation: Inspiration and Perspiration

One of manufacturing's most dedicated fighters, Titan Gilroy, overcame a dark past to gain a sterling reputation in the machining community. He realized during the Great Recession how important a vital manufacturing base is to stay in business, and has dedicated his life since to reshaping the industrial workforce through a manufacturing-based reality show, free online training, and a network of machine shops who have opened their doors to train anyone serious about a career in the skilled trades. Gilroy has taken special attention in attacking the skills gap by training America's forgotten worker, from veterans to the formerly incarcerated to uniquely abled.

Titan Gilroy is CEO of TITANS of CNC, an advanced training facility based in Rocklin, CA and a revolutionary online CNC Academy. Titan's clients have included top aerospace companies, as well as other specialized industries. He also produced, directed, and starred in the only reality series dedicated to American Manufacturing, “TITANS of CNC.”

Today, TITAN is not only an expert in CNC Machining but he has become the world's leading advocate for the future of Manufacturing Education.
